One billion yen (about US $3.8 million) has been donated by Japan to the Philippine government for the expansion of the Philippine Institute of Pure and Applied Chemistry (PIPAC).
The notes on the grant were signed and exchanged by acting foreign minister Pacifico A. Castro and Ambassador Hideho Tanaka at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
A three-storey building furnished with equipment for chemical analysis will be constructed within the Ateneo de Manila University compound in order to enhance the capacity of PIPAC.
