GAS CHROMATOGRAPHY SEMINAR SET
Business Day, May 10, 1979, Trade Trends Section, page 14

The Philippine Institute of Pure and Applied Chemistry (PIPAC) will start its first instrumentation workshop this year. Entitled "Basic Gas Chromatography," the course will begin on May 21 and end on June 11. This was announced by Dr. Modesto T. Chua, institute director of PIPAC. This course is designed to provide basic training in the techniques of chemical analysis using the gas chromatograph. The seminar will cover the following topics: principles underlying GC separation, column selection, instrumental parameters, GC detectors and other parts of the instrument, limitations and applications of the GC method through the presentation of case studies. At the end of the course, simple maintenace and procedures for trouble-shooting will be discussed for the benefit of all GC operators. The lectures will be held at the Chemistry Builiding of the Ateneo on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridyas from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Laboratory sessions will be held on Saturdays. The teaching staff is composed of Miss C. Aquino, S. Balalta, Dr. M. Chua, Dr. A. Javellana, Dr. A. Kapauan, Miss A. Maglaya, Fr. A. Samson, S.J., and Fr. W. Schmitt, S.J. Interested parties may call the PIPAC office for more information, tels. 998721-25 local 169 and 982541-45 local 169.

TRAINING WORKSHOP ON BASIC GAS CHROMATOGRAPHY
Bulletin Today, May 7, 1979, page 10

This training course is designed to provide basic training in gas chromatographic techniques of chemical analysis. The course emphasizes understanding of the principle underlying GC separation, column selection, instrumental parameters, GC detectors and other parts of the instrument. Case studies illustrate the applications and limitations of the method. Discussions of simple maintenance and trouble-shooting procedures have been found to be particularly useful by our past participants.

Date: May 21 - June 11, 1979
