TRAINING WORKSHOPS on Instrumental Methods

PIPAC regularly offers series of three-day training programs and workshops. In the tradition of offering quality, hands-on training, participants are exposed to the methods essential in the practice of chemical analysis and quality control. Course topics include: Basic thoery, an understanding of instruments, applications, troubleshooting & maintenance and fundamental skills.

The seminar speakers are highly qualified research and analytical chemists from Ateneo de Manila University and industry. Workshops on specific topics may be designed according to client needs.

A certificate is awarded to each participant at the end of the course. PIPAC's certificates have acquired good international standing, again in the tradition of PIPAC's dedication to excellence.

A glimpse into PIPAC's training sessions reveals the technical excellence that the Institute is known for. Workshops are conducted on commonly used as well as more advanced methods of analysis.

2004 Schedule of Training Workshops on Instrumental Methods

  Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy
May 13-15, November 25-27
This course discusses the basic concepts and operation of AAS. It also has laboratory exercises to introduce the important parameters of AAS. Get an insight into how AAS works, learn about the flame and flameless methods for obtaining accurate trace analysis.
  Gas Chromatography
March 25-27, October 21-23
This course discusses the basic concepts and operation of GC. Practical sessions on the basic operation of GC will be included.
  High Performance Liquid Chromatography
June 3-5, November 11-13
This course discusses the basic concepts and operation of HPLC. It also includes laboratory exercises to introduce the important parameters of HPLC.
  Infrared Spectroscopy
October 28-30
This course discusses the basic concepts and operation of IR. It also laboratory exercises to introduce the important parameters of IR. Learn how to interpret simple spectra, run different sample types and use new techniques.
  Ultraviolet-Visible Spectrophotometry
To be scheduled
This course discusses the basic concepts and operation of UV-Vis. It also laboratory exercises to introduce the important parameters of UV-Vis.
  Troubleshooting LC Systems
On demand
This course focuses on diagnosing both separation and equipment problems, general discussion on preventive maintenance, different LC modules and GLP in chromatography.
  Ion Chromatography
October 13-15
This course discusses the basic concepts and operation of IC. It also laboratory exercises to introduce the important parameters of IC. This is a fast and convenient way to analyze ions, especially anions.
  Interpretation of IR Spectra
December 2-4
A course in infrared spectral interpretation. Emphasis is on understanding infrared spectra on the basis of chemical structure and not on brute memorization of absorption tables.
  Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry
September 23-25
This course is designed for beginners in GC MS where the basic concepts and operation of GC MS will be introduced. Practical sessions on the basic operation of the GC MS will also be included.
  Analytical Techniques
July 15-17
Analytical methods, strategies and common sources of error are reviewed to help you get accurate analysis.
Completing the HLPC Method: Validation and Transfer
On demand
This course is a contiuation of Methods development and focuses on quantitation and methods validation protocol.
  Gel Permeation Chromatography
On demand
This course focuses on the analysis of organic polymers and its characterization using molecular weight distribution and the different average molecular weights.
