Microbiology Laboratory Analyst

JOB DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the Microbiology Services Laboratory Head, the Microbiology Laboratory Analyst is responsible for, but not necessarily limited to, the following duties:

  1. carry out microbiological analysis of samples submitted by clients;
  2. prepare and sterilize media, glassware, reagents and other materials used for the microbiological analysis of samples;
  3. decontaminate used glassware, media and other materials with microbiological samples;
  4. keep a thorough and up-to-date record of laboratory activities and sample analyses;
  5. prepare Laboratory Analysis reports;
  6. record proper functioning of laboratory equipment and apparatuses;
  7. maintain the orderliness and cleanliness of the Microbiology Services Laboratory; and
  8. perform other related duties, as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduate of Bachelor of Science in Microbiology, Biology, Life Sciences or related field.
  • Registered Microbiologist (Philippine Academy for Microbiology)
  • At least two (2) years of experience in a related job
  • Proficient at microbiological analysis of water, food, hygiene and personal care products:
    • Trained in the preparation of media and other materials necessary for microbiological analyses
    • Skilled in various microbiological techniques used in the detection and/or enumeration of microbial content of samples
    • Adept in the proper treatment and disposal of samples after analysis or use
    • Experienced in the operation and maintenance of common Microbiology Laboratory equipment and apparatuses
  • Skilled in the interpretation of results of microbiological analyses
  • Knowledgeable in the preparation of microbiological analysis reports
  • Informed about the standard operating procedures and protocols in Microbiological Laboratory operations
  • Strong professional oral and writing skills
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively use computer programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Preferably knowledgeable and experienced in implementation of ISO 17025
  • Willing to be trained and open to challenges of being up-to-date with recent microbiological analytical procedures
