Microbiology Laboratory Assistant Manager

JOB DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the Microbiology Services Laboratory (MSL) Head, the Microbiology Laboratory Assistant Manager is responsible for, but not necessarily limited to, the following duties:

  1. oversee the daily operations of the Microbiology Services Laboratory
  2. procure and keep a complete inventory of laboratory media, reagents, and other supplies;
  3. keep track and coordinate the proper maintenance of laboratory equipment and apparatuses;
  4. keep an organized record of monitoring forms for the proper functioning of laboratory equipment and apparatuses;
  5. manage the analysis of samples from sample reception to report generation;
  6. maintain the orderliness and cleanliness of the MSL;
  7. prepare a draft of annual budget for checking by the MSL Head
  8. contribute to the performance evaluation of MSL Analyst;
  9. participate in Quality Management of the MSL operations
  10. formulate and manage strategies to retain good relationships with existing clients
  11. help in the development of strategies and plans to increase client base of the laboratory
  12. draft contract for customized microbiological analysis requests of potential clients
  13. report on successes and areas needing improvements in the laboratory
  14. perform microbiological analyses as needed
  15. perform other related duties, as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  1. Graduate of Bachelor of Science in Microbiology, Biology, Life Sciences or related field
  2. At least three (3) years of experience in a related job
  3. Experienced at managing a microbiological analysis laboratory with the following abilities and characteristics:
    • Strong professional oral and writing skills
    • Target-oriented
    • Can identify and map business strengths and customer needs
    • Stakeholder coordination and good relationship safeguarding
    • Ability to negotiate and resolve conflict
    • Designing and implementation of business development strategies
    • Can do research on business opportunities and viable income streams
    • Up-to-date with local and international industry trends
    • Can write business proposals
    • Has an in-depth knowledge of business products and value proposition
  4. Knowledgeable about the standard operating procedures and protocols in Microbiological Laboratory operations
  5. Demonstrated ability to effectively use computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
  6. Preferably knowledgeable and experienced in implementation of ISO 17025
  7. Willing to be trained on the management of a microbiology analytical laboratory and business development.
